Long reads
It's sad that a category called long reads exists for blog posts. I'd think something like Finnegans Wake qualifies to be a long read but people don't appear to consume even articles. Heck, even I balk at something that extends beyond a few pages.
While the number of tokens LLMs process are increasing, it appears the same is reducing in people, what with small sentences, tweets, hashtags, smaller words, ever-reducing vocabulary, lack of variety and colour in language, increasing nonsense like rizz and delulu, and more generally, reduced attention
.
People want insights, easily digestible nuggets of wisdom, information-dense bullet points and sterile LLM-summaries. The art of using fitting words and flowery language to paint a picture might soon be lost on the next few generations.
Perhaps it's just in keeping with ceremonial tradition that we lament the state of future generations, much like our ancestors.
